Fantastic Antique 19th-century Model Loom or Hand Loom from Rural Virginia
This is a wonderfully handmade working model of a loom or possibly a small hand loom from the 1800s. It appears to be made of pine, is well-crafted, and the rollers and gears move. Great patina on the wood. The cotton threads attached to the rollers are deteriorating from age, as are the linen loop straps on the top roller. Hard to imagine one will ever find a better made example of 19th-century technology that was used in homes and factories to make cloth. This was purchased in rural Rappahannock County near to Shenandoah National Park, in an area with long-established working farms. Measures about 15.5" long x 9.5" wide x 12.5" high. Light for it''s size: weight about 2 lbs. Makes a wonderful decorative piece for the collector of American antiques and those interested in the history of technology.
